Procedure to Update UniRes from the UniRes Website
Special Note: Download a replacement unires.exe (preloader) program file (download available on web site) to replace the unires.exe in your unires folder. The new preloader will ..
1. Silently check the UniRes (arcbase.com.au) support web site for an update. If available, the preloader will ask you if you want to download it now.. If so, after the download finishes (may take 2-3 minutes), you will have the option to update now or later. Just follow the prompts on screen and the update will install for you. Should you want to install it later, the previously downloaded update will not have to be downloaded again from the web.
Automatically created backup ..
Safety backup, If the download file won't start because of an internet connection fail, just delete the file called main.exe in your unires folder and restart unires. The automatically created backup of the previous version main is reinstated and you can try again or call support. Previous version backups are called main.exe.bak, so when unires starts, if the main.exe is not in your unires folder, the backup is renamed to main.exe and started.

Choose to save the file and click Ok. |

Notes: The example is using Firefox web browser. Your browser might show the download dialog differently, maybe at the top right of your browser. |

If you already had a main.upd file in your download folder, you browser will save the file as per example to the right. The (1) indicates that the file is the extra copy. |
Click on the Open Folder Icon next to the file name main.upd. |

Tip: Some web browsers will allow you to Save to ... instead of just Save . If so, save the main.upd directly to your c:\unires folder, replacing the existing (if any), main.upd file. Most UniRes installations are in the c:\unires folder, NOT the Program Files folder. |
You may need to copy the file from your download folder to your UniRes installation folder. |
When your download folder is displayed, Set the "View" to Details as it's easier to find the downloaded file (main.upd)... Typical download folder is c:\user\<your account name>\downloads\ .. Where .. <Your account Name> is the name you used to Login to your PC. |

. Close the UniRes program if it is open. UniRes must not be running when you rename or delete its file. |
The main UniRes file is called main.exe .. This as an "executable" file, that's what the .exe extension means. The downloaded file is supplied as an executable file, but its extension is .upd, short for "update"., Most PC security programs and web browsers (and email client programs) will not allow downloading .exe files as a security precaution. |

Next... Rename the main.exe file in your UniRes folder to say main_11_3_234.bak When your operating system warns you of the change, just click Yes. |

Example at left.. BEFORE You see the main.upd, it is going to be the new main program in UniRes when you rename it to main.exe. But first you must rename the old main.exe .. First the old program is renamed to a .bak file to make it inactive. It can be left in the folder as a reference to past updates. Note: Renaming it back to main.exe is not advisable, as the update may change you database files structure to accommodate new features. Always call support if you need help.

Now do the same for the main.upd file, but rename it to main.exe. |
